Riding in the rain

It is sometimes inevitable to ride in the rain. Anyone could get surprised by the weather, especially if you live in an area similar to mine where a third of the time it is raining. So what can we do to stay safe in these unpleasant conditions?

Well it's been raining for five days now, and considering I am a new rider, I started looking for information on how to ride safely in the rain.

The first basic tip I found was to pull off and not ride during the first ten to twenty minutes of the rain, since that is the time when the road is the most slippery.

To account for the worse traction, just like you would in a car, reduce your speed and follow other vehicles at a greater distance.

Proper inflated tires are very important to prevent hydroplaning. In the Ninja 250R manual, suggested tire pressure for cold tires is: 220kPa / 28 psi on the front; 225 kPa / 32 psi on the rear.

Scan ahead for obstacles, puddles and slippery spots as they can be dangerous.

Brake and accelerate smoothly in a straight line; keep your speed constant in the curves.

Balance as usually on the motorcycle and be relaxed. Do not panic.

It is not as scary as people say it is. Being that little extra careful is all it takes to ride in the rain. Here are sources of additional tips and I encourage you to read some more on your own about it if you think you will have to ride in the rain at some point:

Ride safe and fingers crossed for the sun to come back!
